Adventures In Moving Chapter Two - Packing It Up

Miss Piggy: Why are you telling me all this?
Lady Holiday: It's plot exposition. It has to go somewhere.

- The Great Muppet Caper

During the SF trip, I decided that the house in Wills was the best place for me. I was actually on the ferry coming back from Alcatraz when I turned down one place. It was low-income housing - which they didn't bother to mention in the ad. The sad thing: Even with my three jobs, I still qualified.

As I packed and purged, I was really being hard on myself. Why hadn't I done more of this earlier? Why had I waited until the last minute? I shouldn't have taken a vacation in March.
I had to remember that it's easy for the working-one-job-and-medicated self to say that, but before this I had been working three jobs, was unmedicated, and barely saw the apartment.

Then there was the drama. Not mine. Everyone elses. The 21-yr-old girl I was to replace at the house had gone AWOL. Stuff still there, money still owed. Finally she called Lou* around the 25th and said she would be moving out the 29th. Great, I could move some of my things in before the end of the month. Then she came back, after I had put my check in, and said she didn't want to leave. She no longer wanted to move in with her boyfriend. The male-friend she had been staying with instead was starting to act weird. Oh, and she might be pregnant. Lou (knowing this girl was a drama queen and not always honest) said ,"Too bad, honey, you have to go." Girl said,"I'll have my stuff out by Sat. morning." The 31st.
Meanwhile I'm tripping over boxes at my old place since they were all ready to head over to the new place. Two lucky things.
1. My friend, Matt, lives in a house in Wills, only six blocks away.
2. I have a slip of paper from him that reads: "I owe Julie one big favor."
So we took two car loads to his place.

I was also trying to console a friend over the phone who has been having relationship problems. She mentions that she thinks she would like to live in Wills, too. You mean I could have been looking for a two bedroom with a friend??

March 30th. Friday night, as I'm packing and feeling like I just need one more week, I get a call. "Hi, do you remember a one bedroom apartment that you looked at in Wills last month? It didn't work out with the guy we rented it to so it is now available. Won't be ready to move in for a week, though." AHHHHH! While not the most perfect place - all my stuff would fit and I wouldn't have to deal with the Girl and I would have another week to pack. But I had already given my check to Lou and was committed. And my gut was telling me that this was the right decision.
