Muppet Casting Call

It always happens. Halfway through the run of a show someone starts casting which Muppet would play each character. Even if it's a new person and has never worked with us before. Do you do this too?
We really got in to this one (probably because there is only eight actors, so it's easier to do than a cast of 25). And we also started assigning Muppets to crew members and musicians. The other trick: no repeats. So we started running out of Muppets or forgetting names (or trying to find more females). So what do theatre people do when faced with a dilemma? Have a theme party, of course! Last Saturday we had a Muppet party and watched episodes of The Muppet Show (season one now out on DVD).

So some of the booth crew is double cast: All of us are Statler and Waldorf (you should hear some of the stuff that gets said on headset - actually, you really shouldn't).
I am also Dudley's Music Machine. When Dudley Moore guest stars he brings a machine that sort of looks like R2-D2, plays music themes - and of course, it gets blown up at the end. Yup, that's me!

To show my versatility, here I am as Janice from Halloween 2001.

Yes, we do that too. Although my fave was just hanging around the theatre lounge in college and breaking into a spontaneous radio production of The Holy Grail with muppet voices. (Kermit: "She turned me into a newt")

I've rarely been given anything good since no one wants to take the chance of pissing off the SM.
Perhaps that makes me Piggy?

And I can't believe you would be so unprofessional as to have discussions over the headset. I'm shocked! Shocked, I say!

If you go by the Muppet Show, Kermit is the stage manager. If it's by movie, he plays the lead.
Scooter is the ASM (fifteen seconds to curtain? Boy, they don't give the actors much time!)

Hmmm. I love Kermit to death but I'm not him. But Scooter. Never thought of that. I'm going to try the seconds to curtain next show. I'm sure they will love that.

Did I tell you I got roped into 18 months of Hamlet? Sigh.
