I haven't really traveled with my parents as an adult (or my closest proximity resembling adulthood these days). I realized that I no longer need to go along with their plans and what they want to do. You guys going to rest right now? See ya, I'm going kayaking!

The Nacanicum River.
I rented a 'skate-kayak.' Instead of sitting inside the kayak, you sit on top of it. The only way to steer is with the paddle as there is no rudder.
I went out on the water around 6pm. Feeding time for the birds. Just ten feet in front of me I had birds doing dives from the air into the river and coming up with fish. I was really impressed until I reached a sunny spot. At first I thought I was just looking at the water sparkling in the sun. Then my eyes adjusted and what I was looking at was a huge school of fish - smelt. I think even I could catch a few with my hands, there were so many of them!I also got really close to a heron that was standing out on a dock. When I've run in to herons before while kayaking, they usually take off before I can get real close. This one let me come within five feet of him. He just stood there, would turn. Stand still. Stretch a wing. Stand. Then got bored and walked up the ramp of the dock to someone's backyard.
I wasn't expecting to be out on the water at any time on this trip so I didn't buy a disposable water-proof camera. All I had was my digital and there was no way I was going to take it with me on this dinky psuedo-kayak. I took these pictures the next day from the dock.
