The South Jetty

Being Dad's b-day (and the fact that he was the one driving), he was the one who got to decide how we got to Seaside. We drove from Portland to Astoria and worked our way down the coast. Had lunch in Astoria at a river-side restaurant. I had squid 'n' chips (not calamari).





We stopped at the South Jetty. This is where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean - one of the most dangerous waters anywhere. Read more about it here. More pictures of it here.









They were repairing the jetty while we were there. Look closely at what the truck is carrying. It's entire load is just ONE rock.

And then... Seaside!

Here we are at the Promenade.
I can't believe how much it has grown. I hadn't been there in a long time - probably not since the '80's. Huge hotels.
