For ADD/HD people it is recommended that they find civilian coaches to help them with things like organizing. There is even people who make their living by helping other people get organized. I've wanted someone to help - Mum really tries, but she lives in a different state and is not a civilian. And there is only a few people I feel comfortable with seeing my apartment in it's usual state. Not only that, but who would ever want to take on the task of helping someone organize without getting paid?
Mum pointed me to The Flylady, which has been a help. She does cleaning by zones in your house - and tells you how to do it - and gives you different tasks and tips each week. And it's free! It's actually for everyone, it doesn't have ADD/HD people in mind specifically. I can tell by the way she says things like vacuum the carpet before getting started on the goal. My goal is to find the carpet!
Pic and I got together for a quick bite out on Tuesday. She asked me what I was doing for the rest of the night. All I said was, "Cleaning my apartment." She asked if I thought someone else being there would help. My first thought was 'where would I fit another person?' She was all set to come and be my coach without me even saying anything. She basically just asked me questions.
Pic has the night shift right now so I was sure she wouldn't have time. Nope. We went right from the restaurant to my apartment. What we mostly did was assess the biggest issues and she wrote out a plan for me for this week, to be done by next Tuesday when she and another friend are coming over. Almost step by step instructions.

One of the biggest things is yarn, believe it or not. Storage of it. People keep donating yarn to me, which is great and I don't want to discourage it. But I can't crochet fast enough to keep up with the skeins piling up. I have yarn everywhere - including the trunk of my car.
The only thing slowing me down (besides distractions like blogging) is lack of funds. Buying things to help get organized isn't a possibility right now. Pic determined that what I really need is clear plastic bins that work as shelves so I can organize them by color, keep dust off them, and shelve-like so they are easy to get to. But she gave me a temporary goal of what to do with the yarn for now.
Now I just need coaches for... everything else.

I have an idea for you. You could always find somewhere that has milk crates sitting outside and long term "borrow" them. Like say, behind the Commons....
If I lived closer to you, I would love to help you get organized. I always like helping someone else more than doing it myself!
ahhh college... I mean, not ours because we never did anything like take milk crates or even steal cafeteria trays to go sledding.
We actually discussed milk crates. But won't keep dust off off the yarn and doesn't solve the problem that I have now, just boxes piled on boxes. That's why she mentioned drawer type shelves so I don't have to dig and dig.
