Hail Hail

"Please Agwe, don't flood my garden"

Saturday. Because of Salmon Days, we only had a night show. During the day I got to catch up on errands - while cloudy, there was no sign of the weather changing. I went out to my car, ready to head to the theatre. There was sound of thunder as I got in to the driver's seat. As I started up the car, it started to hail. I counted the seconds inbetween the lightning and the thunder - "one onethousand, tw -BOOM! Ok, really close! I even saw a bolt, then realized where I had seen it must have been really close, because I didn't have a view of the sky from that angle.

I just sat in my car, only able to feel the thunder through the floor. The hail was coming down so hard that I couldn't hear anything over it. Trapped there with nothing to do but wait, I remembered that I did have my camera.

The first picture is of my apartment's parking lot. All that white that looks like snow is hail. The hail itself looked like rock salt. I tried taking a picture of the hood of my car which had turned from light blue to white.

After ten minutes, the hail finally let up and I was on my way. However, the hail had clogged the drainage systems, so the streets were flooded. And it had only been hailing/raining for about ten minutes! I tried to get pictures of the streets flooding, such as this one, but I also had to drive, so the shots aren't very impressive.

Then there was the drive home Sunday night were there was no power in my neighborhood and a smokey smell.
Try crossing Aurora Ave. when people are just whipping through the intersections, not bothering to stop! And then when they do, no one remembers about the driver on the right having the right of way!

Turns out my block must be on a different grid. There was no sign of my building ever having lost power. I got a brief snippet from the news that a pole had caught fire. Still haven't found what from (car/lightning/arson?).
