Lewis & Clark Day?

Today is Columbus Day. What does that mean to us in the Northwest? Absolutely Nothing! Well, we can't go to the bank or receive mail. But other than that the only other thing connected with this day is the Columbus Day Storm.

South Dakota doesn't have Columbus Day. Today is Native American Day.
From Crazyhorse.org:
The 1989 South Dakota Legislature officially established Native American Day in the state at the urging of Gov. George S. Mickelson. He declared 1990 a Year of Reconciliation and called for the first Native American Day observance to be held at Crazy Horse Memorial.

I think that in the West we should have Lewis & Clark Day. Anyone else with me on this? I've been thinking for awhile that there should be a Lewis & Clark Day. Or maybe Corps of Discovery Day, not to forget the rest of the crew. And we have the bicentennial this year.

For those of you who haven't heard, Fort Clatsop had a fire last week. Still a mystery of how it caught fire. Arson has finally been ruled out.
(I should point out that it is a replica). There is good news, though, as people step forward to help rebuild it.
