Eastsound

We headed to Farmer's Market in Eastsound in the afternoon, looking for food and gifts. Pic mentioned that she was expecting more booths. I pointed out that it's a small island.

I saw a t-shirt being sold that I had seen two natives wearing at different times. All it said was "376." I had been wondering, but didn't want to be the unhip who might be asking "so what does 4:20 mean?" Pic asked the sellers. It's the prefix to the telephone number. Everyone on the entire island has the same prefix, so when giving your number, you just say the last four digits (just like college).

I turned to my companions and said, "Look, they built their church upon the rock!"
Blank stares back. Ok, wrong crowd.
(Further reference: Matthew 7:24-27 or Luke 6:48-49)

The front of the church. Emmanuel, built in 1886. To you Easterners it probably doesn't sound that old, but out here, it is.

Pic brought up an old phrase with a new meaning. "Checking out the bar scene" she called it. Eastsound was one of the few places you could get cell reception. We were expecting to meet up with another friend who was bringing up his boat. Pic is listening to a message left by him while Cassie tries to make a call to him.

We ate lunch at Cabo San Juan (I love that the name already fits). Literally, a family Mexican restaurant. You stand at the counter and tell them exactly what you want on your dish as they stand at the stove preparing it. Highly recommend it.

I refer you to the picture on the left. Another reason why I love my state.

I don't know if you can read the price in the picture below, but regular gas was 3.14. In Seattle it was 2.74. Luckily there wasn't that much driving to be done and we had two cars to trade off, so we didn't gas back up until we were off the island.

Also, this is the only chain I remember seeing. I can't recall any other chain stores or restaurants. Hooray for non-gentrification! (I'm sure there's a better word for that).
