If you have been paying any attention, you know that Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is being threatened. The House and Senate are going to be voting right after Labor Day on the Budget Reconciliation Bill. It will make it officially legal to drill in ANWR. Let's try and defeat this bill!
Go to http://www.savearcticrefuge.org/ and let your Congressperson know that you do not support this. Ask them to reject the bill.
On the same website, you can also see how your Congressperson voted in the past.
I have written letters to Senator Murray and kept track of Cantwell's voting as well. I can tell you that here in Washington (state) they oppose drilling.
Why save ANWR?
This wildlife sanctuary, located in the northeast part of Alaska from the Brooks Mountain Range to the Beaufort Sea, is home to a large herd of caribou. As well as polar bears, grizzlies, muskoxen, arctic foxes, wolverines, and many more animals. You can learn more about it on the website.
We need to find other energy resources and learn to conserve what we already have. And there is not enough oil in ANWR for the US to no longer be dependent on foreign oil.
Senator Barbara Boxer has started a boycott petition: "Tell the oil companies to stay out of ANWR!"
From her site:
I'm planning to organize a consumer boycott of any oil company that decides to drill in this pristine Alaskan wilderness area. If, through our pocketbooks, we can convince these companies to do the right thing, we can still save the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from the destruction that would be wrought by the oil drilling rigs.
Send an email to the CEOs of ExxonMobil, BP, ConocoPhillips, Royal Dutch/Shell, and ChevronTexaco now and tell them to stay out of ANWR!
Please do all that you can to protect this wilderness!
